The Mermaid and I kick off our 4th year together and our Washington Capitals' 48th NHL season. We begin with a brief catch up and a celebration of the life of Nicollet Bergren, Anna's mother who recently passed away. Her spirit and sense of life will never leave us.

We move on to hockey specifically the Caps chances this year.  Yes we are cautious but we are also optimistic and the both of us present the many reasons why. No matter what happens, this is going to be a fun team to watch...

Mike Stepp Dedication Episode Special Guest Starring Thom Gobble

Hate to ring in the new season on a sad note, but a promise is a promise...

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Mike Stepp, who was one of the most faithful fans of Our Washington Capitals you would ever have the privilege of knowing. One of the things Mike is most remembered for is his part in creating the Caps Fans Facebook fan page to which this podcast owes a lot to.

Joining me to talk about Mike's life is one of his best friends who moderates and helps out at Caps Fans, Thom Gobble. He and I take time to not only discuss the older days of being a Washington Capitals fan but of course Mike's life in general.

Christian Levesque leaves some points to ponder and we go over some possible moves to consider in the offseason as well as the ins and outs of the upcoming Expansion draft.

Powerplay Point Podcast Special Edition: For the Troops. Special Guest Starring Bryce Jurkovac

Blueliner rides solo on this one...

In this edition of the Podcast we present the story of a truly awesome Caps fan, Bryce Jurkovac. First we go over how he got started as a fan of both hockey in general and the Caps. Bryce then goes over his military career which involved some dangerous work the likes of which aren't usually discussed in open company in great detail.

We then discuss his life after the service which ultimately led him to combine the family he had come to know and be a part of in the US Army and the sport he had come to love in his youth--the Warriors Hockey team. We discuss how he got his start there and what the team has come to represent. And the service the continue to provide when they play for both disabled Veterans as well as the hockey community.

Finally....the story of how Anna does what she does so well....reach out to people in need.

Anna and I put out our frustrations in a direct, honest and yet hopefully humorous way...because we know how you the Caps fans feels right about now. To aid us in this endeavor we are joined by friend of the show Josh Kirby of the Josh Kirby on Sports Podcast who helps us not only to vent but take another look at things in a certain perspective.

To be sure it's still OK to believe....even though things look dire.

Blake Allen of the Chirpin' DMV Podcast joins us to teach us all about Hockey Analytics. Some would call these Advanced stats. Some call it Moneypuck. However you see it, we guarantee you will become a better hockey fan for it.

Blake goes over what they are and in depth two of the more telling metrics--specifically Corsi and Expected Goals. Educational you say?  Maybe. But only if you learn something...

The Mermaid is off for the week...the Seamstress for the Band aka Mrs. Blueliner fills in to provide her perspective.

It was, how to put this...an interesting week for Our Capitals. Sorry to say we will NOT be discussing the Tom Wilson situation at any length. If you wish to know my take on things please visit our Facebook Show page.

We recap the four games and go over the perils facing the team no thanks to their unusual roster situation this past week. We also discuss bad Caps fans and their hatred of Anthony Mantha and why it's stupid.

Finally we discuss the potential future of two current Caps who are on the hot seat and may be facing relocation to another team--Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilya Samsonov. Don't worry, they aren't really going anywhere. Yet.

The first week of May features another even week of hockey. Anna and I go over the win, the OT loss and the regulation loss.

We then put the spotlight on a man who means so much to Our Caps--Coach Oshie. We wish him well in his health issues.

And in an inflammatory rebuke we then go after one of the worst sources of Caps fans' negativity, a certain Facebook Group that features unfounded negative opinions about the Caps. We urge you to clean up your act and rid the page of the trolls who claim to be loyal Caps fans.

 

Be a loyal Caps fan even when finding fault.....never lose faith.

Show #159---The Caps Have Left the Island.....with two wins!

Anna and I go over in our usual crazy way the two games the Caps battled on Long Island and won. Could it be they have finally settled on a No. 1 goaltender?

We also take time to pass along our most positive vibes for one of the greatest fans in DC Sports---Ted Peters AKA Nats Captain Obvious. He's going through a very rough patch health wise and sure could use all of our well wishes.

Finally, in a special "easter egg" segment (because I forgot to mention it initially) we go back in time to talk about another trade that had a big impact on the Caps and their playoff fortunes.  Hint----think late 80's.....very late 80s.
